Instruments of Faith Auditions

by Jacqueline Hedeman

I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Lewis Center’s Women in Theater conference in September. In addition to listening to panelists whose stories ranged from informative to inspiring and learning more about the under representation of women in various areas of the theater, I ran into Rocky administrator Karen Sisti, there and she mentioned that she might be putting together a SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day in March. I said I would be happy to help.

A couple conversations later, we decided that my contribution would be a staging of a play I wrote a couple years ago, “Instruments of Faith”. (Which is about the 2005 Vatican-sponsored investigations of all US Catholic seminaries. I read an article in the New York Times, and, as a Catholic liberal, was outraged enough to write a play.) The original, one-act version was performed at Knox College in February 2008, but I’ve been doing some revising to hopefully lengthen it a bit and generally make it as good as it can be.

I’ll be holding auditions on Saturday, February 6th from 12:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 in the Rocky classroom. Sign up by typing into this Google doc.

More than one person per slot is welcome and encouraged. No need to prepare any material; the audition will consist of a cold reading.

There are eight male roles and one female role, so even if you’re not auditioning please spread the word to your male friends. Part of my goal is to get as many people involved with this as possible who, like me, have had minimal exposure to Princeton theater in the past. I know there are actors out there!

Part of the goal of SWAN is giving art the space it needs to grow and improve. I could use your help.
